“Pope Francis has rested all night. He has not presented any fever episodes.” The Vatican updates on the health conditions of the Pope hospitalized at Gemelli since yesterday due to a worsening of bronchitis.
“The tests carried out during the day confirm the infection of the respiratory tract. The therapy has been slightly modified based on further microbiological findings. Today’s laboratory tests show improvement in some values,” reports the Vatican, informing that the Pontiff “will not lead the Angelus from Gemelli tomorrow.”
Bergoglio “received the Holy Eucharist in the morning, then alternated rest with prayer and reading. To facilitate recovery – explains the Vatican – the medical staff has prescribed absolute rest; therefore, on Sunday, February 16, the Holy Father will not lead the Angelus prayer, nevertheless, he has intended to send the text for its publication.” “Pope Francis has been updated on the many messages of closeness and affection received and expresses his gratitude, asking at the same time to continue praying for him,” informs the Vatican.
So tomorrow, no greetings from the balcony of the tenth floor of the hospital or from the window of his room as it happened in July 2021 after the intervention for diverticular stenosis. It is not the first time that the Angelus is skipped: it occurred in June 2023 during the hospitalization to resolve an abdominal laparocele.
