Prank + Giorgio Li Calzi: A Fusion of Jazz, Rock, and Artistic Creativity
“Machiavelli Music” announces the debut album of the visionary quartet “Prank + Giorgio Li Calzi”, a blend of King Crimson, Suicide, eclectic and unconventional contemporary jazz, and the artistic and vibrant nightlife of Turin over the past thirty years. The album will be released by Machiavelli Music in 2024, featuring 7 tracks with a total duration of 29.36 minutes.

The quartet, composed of Enrico Degani on electric guitar, Federico Marchesano on electric bass, Dario Bruna on drums, and Giorgio Li Calzi on experimental electric trumpet, presents a creative and uncontainable sound. The music embraces influences from King Crimson and Suicide, the vibrant nightlife of Turin from the ’80s to the present, eclectic directions of contemporary jazz, deep-rooted postcore and new wave influences, and unexpected post-progressive destinations. Following the success of their first single “Touching Hands” in 2023 and their recent release “Fat Man Vs Bodybuilder,” the debut album “Prank + Giorgio Li Calzi” is set to be a testament to their unique artistic expression.
Described as a snapshot of a moment of creative frenzy, the quartet’s music defies categorization, blending elements of jazz and rock in an innovative and unconventional way. The members of Prank have come together with Giorgio Li Calzi, fusing their individual musical backgrounds into a cohesive and dynamic sound. The quartet’s roots trace back to industrial Turin in the ’80s, a melting pot of hardcore and new wave movements, evolving into the cosmopolitan music scene of today.

The album, a result of collaborative efforts with various musicians over the years, pays homage to influences ranging from King Crimson to African music, from hardcore to Suicide. The cover of the album, featuring a captivating image by Alessandro Albert focusing on the instruments of the quartet, serves as a visual introduction to the immersive and lyrical sonic world crafted by Prank + Giorgio Li Calzi. The album promises to be a journey through a captivating and eclectic musical landscape, rich with influences and experiences that have shaped the quartet’s unique sound.
