President Biden has urged for an immediate ceasefire in response to the escalating situation in the Middle East. Addressing questions about the possibility of Israel’s ground invasion in Lebanon, Biden emphasized the need for peace.

Support for Israel’s defense While calling for a ceasefire, President Biden reiterated the United States’ full support for Israel’s right to defend itself against groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and other terrorist organizations backed by Iran. He instructed the Defense Secretary to strengthen the defensive position of US forces in the Middle East to deter aggression and reduce the risk of a broader regional conflict.

Security concerns in Lebanon In light of the volatile security situation in Beirut, the US State Department has instructed some employees on mission in Lebanon and their families to leave the country. This decision comes amidst concerns of a possible escalation of the conflict, with travel restrictions being imposed and flight capacities reduced due to security threats.
