Joe Biden withdraws candidacy: historic decision for the United States

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has officially announced the withdrawal of his candidacy for the elections on November 5, 2024. The announcement was made through a letter posted on his social media. Biden stated: “It has been a great honor to serve as your President. However, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country that I withdraw and focus on fulfilling my presidential duties for the remainder of my term.”
The president, currently in isolation due to Covid, has decided to yield to the pressures of numerous members of the Democratic Party. This step back comes shortly after a disastrous televised debate with Donald Trump on June 27 on CNN. Biden’s poor performance on that occasion raised doubts about his physical and cognitive abilities, and his subsequent public appearances failed to restore the confidence of Democratic voters and donors. And so today, the decision to withdraw.
