Arazzeria Scassa presents itself during the Milan Design Week in an exclusive off-site event

Like five centuries ago, they are so rare and precious that almost no one makes them anymore. The high warp tapestries today maintain the status of splendid and sought-after works of art, but they differ from the flat colors and mythological subjects of the seventeenth-century manufactures.

Today tapestries have evolved, they speak a new language, current and exciting. They are inspired by contemporary art, with vibrant, iridescent, rich and full-bodied colors, thanks to the refined technique invented in the late fifties by the art enthusiast Ugo Scassa.

An occasion to admire the collection of Arazzi Scassa will be the exclusive off-site event scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 during the Design Week at La Boutique in via Gastone Pisoni 6.

The elegant location next to via Manzoni, just renovated by architect Fabio Rotella, will host wonderful tapestries and art carpets, made by Arazzeria Scassa, featuring original subjects by contemporary artists and designers.

Giuseppe Capogrossi, Paul Klee, Joan Mirò, Umberto Mastroianni and Andy Warhol are the authors who inspired the works on display, but represent only a twelfth of the artists who, in 60 years of activity, have inspired the Asti tapestry workshop.

Massimo Bilotta, CEO of the Company, states: “There are really many artists who have collaborated with my uncle, Ugo Scassa, giving life to fruitful and lasting artistic partnerships, which, in some cases, have turned into sincere friendships.”

Bilotta continues, listing: “The Tapestry workshop has been and is a forge of ideas and a meeting place for artists and patrons. Many, indeed, have been the creatives intrigued by the potential of an art fabric: from Ernst, Guttuso and Casorati, to Ezio Gribaudo, Giorgio de Chirico, Antonio Corpora, Corrado Cagli and Renzo Piano, for whom we have created, among others, a monumental carpet reproducing the design of the Pompidou Center in Paris. Some friendships have led to stimulating collaborations, such as the one with Umberto Mastroianni, which extended to include a total of 22 tapestries.”

“I am very happy to announce with this event at La Boutique, during the Milan Design Week, the creative and energetic resumption of activities within Arazzeria Scassa, after the temporary suspension following the founder’s passing and the Covid crisis,” Bilotta continues, concluding: “In the elegant location at number 6 via Pisoni, we have planned an event dedicated to beauty and art lovers, to furniture and design professionals, with whom we aim to engage more and more intensely.”
