The death toll from the wildfires in Chile has risen to 64, with the central region of the country, particularly Valparaiso, being heavily affected. President Gabriel Boric announced this in a speech given at La Moneda. So far, only 32 bodies have been identified. “I want to be very cautious with this number because given the conditions of the tragedy, the number of victims is surely going to increase in the coming hours. But the figures we will provide are those confirmed by the competent authorities,” Boric said.

The ongoing fires are causing widespread devastation and loss of life in the central region of Chile. The situation is particularly dire in Valparaiso, where numerous homes and forested areas have been reduced to ashes.

The fires were ignited by a combination of extreme temperatures and strong winds, which have facilitated the rapid spread of the flames. Valparaiso, known for its natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes, has been hit particularly hard.

President Boric emphasized the need for caution when providing the final number of victims, as the situation is still evolving. However, he assured that the competent authorities are working tirelessly to provide updated and accurate information on the situation.
