A voyage into Italian households to rewrite the future of the left
The Mayor of Pesaro, Matteo Ricci, embarks on a journey in search of the reasons behind the defeat of the Democratic Party. Through an unprecedented post-electoral campaign, he decides to sit at the table with Italian families to listen to their opinions and understand why the people have turned their backs on the left. During these dinners, the Mayor asks questions and takes notes, trying to grasp the indications and suggestions of the citizens themselves. The goal is to relaunch the party with new ideas, focusing on a European and popular left.
The resulting book is a travel report that offers an analysis of the causes of the Democratic Party’s defeat and proposes a reflection on the relationship that the left must establish with society. Matteo Ricci believes in the need for a constituent of ideas, which allows rewriting the party’s guidelines and facing the crucial challenge of change that Europe is undertaking. Through the testimonies collected during the family dinners, Matteo Ricci wants to understand the needs and desires of citizens, trying to rebuild a dialogue that seems to have been interrupted.

The journey unfolds from North to South, from house to house, just as it used to be, with the aim of listening and understanding, not asking for votes but rather to ask how we can start talking again.
