ATTACK IN TERMINI: FORZA ITALIA ROME CALLS FOR INCREASED SECURITY MEASURES ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT
“We stand with the recent victims of the aggressions that have taken place on public transport in Rome. Security on public transport must be a priority and we cannot allow such incidents to happen without consequences. After the case of Mattia, a young cancer patient brutally attacked in the metro while going for chemotherapy, another aggression occurred at the ATAC spaces in Termini station, near the Line B escalator towards Laurentina. Our activist Orsola Larocca, responsible for Azzurro Donna in the VIII Municipality, was assaulted by a man, suffering a violent blow that caused her to faint. Following a visit to the emergency room, the victim was found to have a foot fracture and subsequently filed a report with the Carabinieri. Citizens are worried and scared about this escalating violence. Where is Mayor Gualtieri? It is unacceptable for the citizens of Rome to live in fear of being attacked on public transport.” This was the joint statement by Caterina Benetti and Matteo Bruno, councilors of Forza Italia in the VIII Municipality.
“Rome should be a safe city for all its residents. Urgent action is required to enhance surveillance and increase the presence of law enforcement in stations and on public transport. We cannot tolerate this ongoing danger. The Mayor of Rome and the left-wing parties continue to evade responsibility, but the mayor is responsible for urban safety and participates in committees for order and security: it is high time for the Democratic Party and the mayor to cease claiming that everything is under control and to prioritize this issue in the political agenda. Safety is a fundamental right for citizens: preventive measures must be implemented before a tragedy occurs,” they concluded.
